Details
Construction for replacement of the pedestrian bridges used for the entrance into Red Rocks Amphitheatre from the upper south parking lot. The two bridge structures replaced were the lower ramp at 43 feet and larger upper ramp at 78 feet, which were connected by 40 feet of 12-foot wide pedestrian path along the rock phase. Aesthetic enhancements such as stone veneer faces, concrete staining and decorative bridge rails were incorporated to blend the new structures with historic aesthetic of the site.
The original structure was built in the late 1940’s, as it was nearing the end of its useful life expectancy. The project will replace the structures with a new pedestrian structure that includes a design that respects the original structure aesthetic while being able to meet modern structural standards. Preserved the iconic Redrock's look by minimizing the disturbance
The steep typography made it impossible for standard drilling equipment to access the site. To overcome this, SEMA utilized lattice cranes to transport and position the drilling equipment from the staging area. The approach allowed for smaller pads to be used, thereby minimizing damage.
Major Achievements
Minimal disturbance impact and pedestrian access had to be open by March 30th; SEMA had 4 months to complete the project.
