Details
These photos display the start of something great within our Southeast District – the entry into the CMAR/CMGC market and also marquees the inter-district collaboration and communication. The 44th Ave extension project for Manatee County is the Southeast’s first CMAR project in district history, with the assistance of our Rocky Mountain District staff we were able to successfully pursue, administer preconstruction services and transition into construction. Setting the district up for further success in this arena. While the photos have a symbolic meaning, they also have a literal one. The relationship we’ve been able to develop and maintain with Manatee County has been crucial to project success, open lines of communication and flexibility on both sides are quickly leading to a project that will be delivered months ahead of schedule, connecting the Bradenton community and providing better, more efficient transportation routes.
Major Achievements
Opening this portion of roadway is extremely important to Manatee County, when the director of public works asked if there was anything that could be done to open the road sooner. We agreed to accelerate, for no additional cost (incentive bonus if successful), shaving 6 months off the originally agreed to schedule.
Savings
We saved the County approximately $12M when we presented the innovation to construct a bridge through South Lake. The original plan was to construct an earthen causeway that required more than 100k tons of riprap over two seasons and completely emptying the lake, which would take storm water storage capacity away from the county. The bridge was constructed using marine equipment and the lake never had to be drained. We were able to work with the county and leave the lake near full the entire duration.
