Details
The approximately six-mile project will expand and enhance I-25 from Colorado Highway 66 and connect the newly built portion of I-25 just south of CO 56 in Berthoud. Once complete it will complete a major missing piece on I-25 and will be the first time there will be more than two lanes of I-25 from Denver to Fort Collins in the NB & SB direction. Improvements include wide inside roadway shoulder to 10’ and outside shoulder to 12’ for safety purposes. Fully reconstruct I-25 & WCR 34 interchange, Full Reconstruct NB and SB bridges WCR 32, I-25 over GWRR, & Valley Road, along with overpass of CR 38 bridge, add one 12-foot express lane in each direction, and install & integrate tolling and ITS equipment.
Selling Points
Making safety improvements to reduce number of crashes & fatalities, decrease travel time, reduce emissions, improve congestion saving, rebuilding aging & obsolete infrastructure, improve bicycle pedestrian and transit connectivity.
Major Achievements
Build 6.5 miles of median widening, temp bridges & drainage within 7 months to help achieve overall goal of completing entire package in 3 years.
Savings
Although not the final product team decided to temporarily build the median to give CDOT enough time to acquire ROW and move utilities. Was able to leave 90% of median paving in place as permanent paving. It saved CDOT millions by keeping to an overall schedule.
