Details

While the Epcot Center Drive Interchange is not one of the larger projects completed in SEMA’s history, it ranks very high on the list of projects with the highest complexity, environmental focus and social responsibility. This project was constructed for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (f.k.a Reedy Creek Improvement District), an infrastructure management district under the Walt Disney umbrella. With an average daily traffic count of more than 100k vehicles through the project limits, MOT phasing that not only maximized construction efficiency but also considered the traveling public arriving and departing to visit Walt Disney World was paramount to project success. While the overreaching goal of the project was to increase capacity, during construction, existing lane capacity had to be maintained at all times as to not impact the high level of guest experience that WDI demands. Our internal SME’s, in collaboration with several traffic engineers, WDI transportation and the construction manager hired by RCID came up with the most efficient phasing possible to deliver the project on time and within budget. This project exemplified our commitment to sustainability, balancing environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic growth.

Selling Points

Maintenance of multiple travel lanes in all directions during construction. Close coordination with multiple entities within a particular stake holder. Working with Disney resorts, transportation, parking, and facilities maintenance; satisfying all parties.

Major Achievements

Eliminated multiple MOT phases to make project construction more efficient and less confusing for guests of the property.
