Details
SEMA’s Southeast District is no stranger to constructing high profile projects, this sixth and final segment of the 44th Ave. Extension in Manatee County, FL, will provide connectivity to the Bradenton Community that has been in the making for more than 50 years and has been under construction for more than 10 years. SEMA was happy to assist/coordinate for the ground breaking ceremony, all county commissioners and public works directors were in attendance, making it a truly memorable event.
Major Achievements
Opening this portion of roadway is extremely important to Manatee County, when the director of public works asked if there was anything that could be done to open the road sooner. We agreed to accelerate, for no additional cost (incentive bonus if successful), shaving 6 months off the originally agreed to schedule.
Savings
We saved the County approximately $12M when we presented the innovation to construct a bridge through South Lake. The original plan was to construct an earthen causeway that required more than 100k tons of riprap over two seasons and completely emptying the lake, which would take storm water storage capacity away from the county. The bridge was constructed using marine equipment and the lake never had to be drained. We were able to work with the county and leave the lake near full the entire duration.
