Role and Responsibilities
As Chief Legal Counsel and Vice President of Risk, Eric leads SEMA’s legal, insurance, risk management, and compliance functions with a steadfast focus on protecting the interests of the company and its stakeholders - owners, employees, trade partners, and suppliers. Reporting directly to T. Brett Ames, CEO and Corporate and District President for California, Rocky Mountain, Texas, and Mid-Atlantic, Eric plays a pivotal role in shaping and safeguarding the company’s legal strategy and corporate integrity.
Eric oversees all aspects of contract negotiation and execution, liability and litigation management, and corporate insurance programs. He collaborates closely with internal teams across risk, contracts, Human Resources, safety, accounting, and finance to identify and mitigate risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and uphold SEMA’s strong corporate governance. He also leads the management of SEMA’s outside legal counsel relationships and supports HR in appropriate claims related matters.

Personal
Eric is guided in his professional and personal life by faith, family, country, and company. Having grown up in Minnesota, he and his wife, Susan, are passionate and unrepentant Gophers and are particularly strong fans of the Minnesota Gophers Men’s Hockey team. As passionate outdoors people, he and Susan enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, and bird watching throughout the United States, especially in the mountains of Colorado. Eric is also a licensed Open Water SCUBA instructor, having certified many divers, including his most reluctant student, Susan. He is active in his church and is the Executive Director of The Servant Leadership Foundation, a small private foundation which provides material support to those engaged in ministry throughout the world.
