Role and Responsibilities
As Minority Owner and District President, Florida and National Building Expert, Brad Spies leads SEMA’s Florida District operations, overseeing strategic growth, safety, customer relations, preconstruction, engineering, and project execution. Reporting to Tom Ames, Founder and Owner, he plays a key role in SEMA’s long-term expansion and operational success.
Since joining SEMA in 1992, Brad has been instrumental in shaping the company’s national presence in heavy civil infrastructure. In 2007, he relocated from Denver to Florida to establish and lead SEMA’s Florida office, transforming it into a critical component of SEMA’s national operations.
A hands-on leader, Brad is recognized for his sense of urgency in meeting schedules and delivering complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget. His expertise spans highways, bridges, reservoirs, commercial buildings, and water/wastewater treatment plants, reinforcing SEMA’s reputation for precision and excellence.
Brad is a strong advocate of Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC), Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), and Progressive Design-Build (PDB). He leverages these alternative delivery methods to maximize efficiency, improve collaboration, and mitigate risk.
Brad ensures that every project aligns with The Project and The People - safely, sustainably, with high quality, and profitably. Guided by SEMA's core values - Hungry, Humble, Tough, and Smart, he strengthens SEMA’s reputation as the best partner in the industry - "SEMA, More to Look Forward To."
