This project involved the construction of a replacement flood bypass system for the Mayflower Tailing Dam. The Mayflower Flood Bypass Sidehill Intake Structure project included construction of a new sidehill intake structure to convey floodwaters to a new tunnel on the left abutment of the tailing impoundment.
This $26.5 million project included the reconstruction of an existing reservoir facility including demolition, 3.8 million CY of excavation, mining of interior berms, removal of portions of mined materials, construction of a 17 foot high embankment, outlet works and spillway, interconnecting concrete lined ditches, sedimentation basins, and provisions for future addition of aeration and chemical treatment piping, access roads and other facilities.
This project included construction of a two-lane, concrete paved access road extending two miles from Lime Road to GCC’s Pueblo cement plant site. The project also included construction of a three-span bridge with a length of 310 feet crossing over the St. Charles River.
